Frederick Longhurst was born at Oakleigh, Surrey and attested on 17th January 1894. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 3rd April 1895 before later reverting to Private at his own request on 30th May 1898. He would serve on the North West Frontier from 5th August 1897 until 3rd October 1898, and then in India from 4th October 1898 until 15th February 1901 followed by Burma from 16th February 1901 until 11th December 1902 when he returned home to the UK.
He served in the UK until his discharge on 16th January 1910.
