Ernest Weller was born in Firle near Lewes, Suffolk and attested at Canterbury on 9th November 1892 initially being posted to 2nd Battalion, East Kent Regiment – the Buffs before being posted to the 1st Battalion on 2nd December 1895 with whom he would travel to India, he served on the North West Frontier from 5th August 1897 until 3rd October 1898, and then in India from 4th October 1898 until 15th February 1901 followed by Burma from 16th February 1901 until 11th December 1902.
Once returning to India at this point, he would subsequently serve in Aden from 14th October 1903 until 8th December 1904, before returning home where he remained until 26th September 1906, travelling to South Africa for service until 26th October 1908 and then Hong Kong from that date until 24th May 1909. He would then return to the UK being discharged unfit on 27th July 1909.
