Medway, 2nd Battalion, Devonshire Regiment who saw service in Burma during operations against Burmese insurgents which took placed in the period from 16th April 1889 until 18th April 1892, his battalion forming part of the Irrawaddy Column in late 1891 and early 1892.

George Medway was born in St. Davids, Exeter and attested into the Devonshire Regiment on 15th March 1881, he would initially serve at home in the UK, until he travelled to India on 15th December 1883, subsequently spending a total of 9 years and 43 days there including participating during the operations against the Burmese insurgents which took place in the period from 16th April 1889 to 18th April 1892. The 2nd Battalion, Devonshire Regiment forming part of the Irrawaddy Column in late 1891 and early 1892.
He would travel to Egypt on 27th January 1893 and subsequently returned home to the UK on 15th April 1893, undertaking another 10 years and 214 days service before his discharged at Exeter on 14th November 1903.
During his service he had attained a Mounted Infantry certificate on 2nd August 1889, a Royal Small Arms Factory Armourers Certificate on 2nd January 1900 and a School of Musketry, Hythe certificate on 8th October 1900. He had also completed his second class certificate of education.
