Woodward, 18th Battalion, London Regiment, later Royal Army Ordnance Corps who saw service on the Western Front from 9th March 1915 and was awarded the Military Medal in the London Gazette of 10th August 1916, a Gazette which covers awards for actions during late May, June and early July 1916, and includes some awards for 1st July 1916. Later commissioned into the 18th Battalion, London Regiment on 24th July 1917, he would then transfer to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps where he finished as a Lieutenant.

Charles William Woodward saw service as a Private (No. 1879) with the 18th Battalion, London Regiment on the Western Front from 9th March 1915, he would later go on to be awarded the Military Medal in the London Gazette of 10th August 1916, this gazette covers action during late May, June and early July 1916, and includes some awards for the 1st July 1916 – the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
Woodward would later be commissioned on 24th July 1917, initially as a Second Lieutenant with the 18th Battalion, London Regiment and later as a Lieutenant with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps. His medals being sent to him at Heacham, Norfolk.
