Henry Brough was born in Skelton, Yorkshire on 1st April 1887 and was still living there at the time of the 1901 census. By 1911 he had moved and was living in Collierley, County Durham where he was employed as a Coal Miner.
During the Great War he would see service as a Private (No. 16938) with the Durham Light Infantry and would be present on the Western Front from 20th July 1915, and is noted as having been wounded in the Casualty List issued by the War Office on 3rd July 1916. He would recover from his wounds and would later be discharged, dying aged 48 in Lanchester, County Durham.
