Fred C. Porter saw service as a Private, later Acting Serjeant (No. 5) with the 1st Lancashire Sanitary Company, Royal Army Medical Company on the Western Front from 20th December 1914 and would survive the war to be disembodied on 5th April 1919. He was at one stage admitted to hospital with Measles.
