Anthony Cunningham was born in Dublin and would go on to serve as an Acting Lance Corporal, later Corporal (No. 9721) with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Irish Regiment on the Western Front from 3rd January 1915. He would be awarded the Military Medal in the London Gazette of 12th December 1917 which covers awards for Ypres in September and October 1917.
Promoted Corporal, he would be demobilised on 3rd March 1919.
