Arthur George Deverill was born in Westminster on 15th April 1890 and giving his civilian trade as a clerk would join the Royal Naval Air Service on 19th June 1915 being appointed Corporal Clerk on 1st March 1916 and Petty Officer, Sergeant Clerk on 1st February 1918. before transferring to the Royal Air Force upon its formation on 1st April 1918 and would see service in France from 22nd March 1918 until 27th February 1919.
He would be transferred to the Royal Air Force Reserve on 3rd April 1919 shortly after a bout of Influenza had left him hospitalised, and would be finally discharged on 30th April 1920.
