Michael Block was living in Whitechapel, London when he attested, giving his trade as a Ladies Hat Maker. He would arrive in France on 29th September 1918 and would see service on the Western Front as a Private (No. 49346) with the East Lancashire Regiment. He had previously seen service with the 4/4th Battalion later 3rd Battalion, London Regiment, and a court of enquiry held in Torquay on 3rd May 1917 found that he had been absent without leave on 11th April 1917.
