Ernest Robert Stallon was born in Wretton, Norfolk, and attested at Toronto on 18th January 1916 giving his trade as a contractor – general initially serving with the 134th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force and sailed for Europe on 8th August 1916.
He would see service in France from 11th October 1916 as a Private (No. 799393) with the 15th Battalion (48th Highlanders of Canada), Canadian Infantry, and would be twice admitted to hospital, the first time being in July 1917 suffering from exposure and the second suffering from Trench Fever in March 1918. He would subsequently be evacuated sick to England, and would return to Canada arriving at St. John on 30th November 1918, being discharged medically unfit on 28th December 1918.
