Great War pair awarded to Chief Motor Mechanic S. Platt, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who would see wartime service on Coastal Motor Boats including aboard Motor Launch 497 whilst attached to HMS Eagle, later HMS Eaglet based in Liverpool.

Squire Platt was born on 28th June 1898 and giving his trade as a Motor Mechanic joined the Royal Navy on 1st November 1916 initially serving as a Mechanic on Hermione from 1st November 1916 until 28th December 1916, before being attached to Victory (Motor Launch 497) from 29th December 1916 until 6th January 1917, and then attached to Eagle and Pactolus still with Motor Launch 497 until 16th November 1918, before transferring to Eaglet from 17th November 1918 until 27th August 1919 when he was shore demobilised.
