William Henry Johnson was born in St. Pauls, Cheltenham and joined the Welsh Division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on 29th November 1916 with whom he would serve as an Able Seaman (No. W.Z. 3878). A short and eventful career saw him absent and then spending time in the divisional cells before being demobilised on 6th September 1917.
Johnson was remobilised the next day and was finally demobilised ashore on 10th April 1919.
