Ernest Wheldon was born in Hull, Yorkshire and enlisted into the Royal Air Force on 11th September 1918 and subsequently saw service as an Air Mechanic 3rd Class. He would see service in France from 7th November 1918 until 14th February 1919 and was transferred to the Royal Air Force reserve on 20th March 1919, before being discharged on 30th April 1920.
