Great War pair and double Long Service group awarded to Private, later Sergeant J.G. Shaw, Honourable Artillery Company – Infantry late of the 6th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry and finally of the Special Constabulary who would receive his Territorial Force Efficiency Medal in Army Order 101 of 1st April 1914 before later seeing service with the Honourable Artillery Company – Infantry on the Western Front during the Great War. He would receive a Commission in the Durham Light Infantry on 13th June 1919.

John George Shaw was awarded his Territorial Force Efficiency Medal as a Sergeant in the 6th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry in Army Order 101 of 1st April 1914 before later seeing service during the Great War, initially as a Private (No. 11243) with the Honourable Artillery Company – Infantry at home for just 1 day before re-enlisting on 21st July 1917. He would travel to France where he would see service on the Western Front from 4th January 1918 until 22nd August 1918, then returning to the UK before being commissioned in the Durham Light Infantry on 13th June 1919.
