Edward Golding saw service with the Army Cycling Corps and the Essex Cyclist Battalion as a Lieutenant before later serving with the Essex Regiment as a Captain. He first entered Mesopotamia on 4th July 1916, the London Gazette of 17th May 1918 notes him relinquishing the acting rank of Captain on ceasing to command a Trench Mortar Battery on 9th January 1918.
