John Eales was born and enlisted in Cullompton, Devon and saw service as a Serjeant (No. 755, later No. 200068) with the 1st/4th Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, Territorial Force in Mesopotamia. He would be killed in action on 3rd February 1917 and is now buried in Amara War Cemetery. He is noted as the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Eales of Exeter Road, Cullompton and is further remembered on the Cullompton War Memorial.
He is additionally entitled to a Territorial Force War Medal.
