Great War Merchant Fleet Auxiliary Supply Vessel Operations and possible Q-Ship and Royal Naval Reserve long service group awarded to Leading Stoker H Hill, Royal Naval Reserve, who originally joined in November 1900, and worked as a fireman aboard merchant ships in civil life. With the war he was mobilised aboard the Merchant Fleet Auxiliary vessel ‘Intaba’ which was then a flotilla supply vessel, and which later became a Q-Ship, with Hill possibly seeing service in this role during the latter part of the war. Hill was awarded the Royal Naval Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 25th July 1918.

Henry Hill was born on 5th March 1872 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, and enrolled into the Royal Fleet Reserve at Glasgow on 6th November 1900, when living there. In civil life he worked as a fireman aboard merchant ships. With the outbreak of the Great War he was mobilised as a Leading Stoker (U.1022) with the Glasgow District, and was immediately posted aboard the Merchant Fleet Auxiliary vessel ‘Intaba’ which was then a flotilla supply vessel. He saw service on and off aboard her until April 1916, then he transferred to the depot ship Colleen at Queenstown, and he may possibly have seen service aboard Q-Ships from this period onwards, though this is speculation, as his services records are hard to discern. Awarded the Royal Naval Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 25th July 1918, he was demobilised in July 1919.
