Thomas Joseph Mathews was born in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, lived in Northleach, Gloucestershire and enlisted in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire seeing service as a Sapper (No. 34423) with the Royal Engineers on the Western Front from 7th September 1915. He later died on 25th October 1918 whilst attached to ‘L’ Depot Company, Royal Engineers in Chatham.
