Horace Augustus Gitson was born at Christow, Devon and enlisted at Tiverton, Devon before seeing service as a Private (No. 42054) with the 13th (Works) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, He died at home on 1st February 1917, and is now buried in Tidworth Military Cemetery, Wiltshire.
