George Edward Burnett was born in Heanor, Nottinghamshire and was a resident of Stourton, Leeds. He would see service on the Western Front from 27th August 1915 as a Private (No. 15333) with the 2nd Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment. He would be killed in action on 22nd March 1918 – the 2nd day of the German Spring Offensive and having no known grave is remembered on the Pozieres Memorial.
