Knibb enlisted on 28th September 1914 and saw service during the Great War as a Private (No.2675) with the 2nd/10th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment, Territorial Force, being present out at Gallipoli from 9th August 1915 and was wounded in action there. Knibb was discharged due to wounds on 20th May 1916 and awarded the Silver War Badge.
