Great War Gallipoli Battle of Sari Bair Casualty 1914-1915 trio awarded to Private S. Horan, 1st Battalion, Essex Regiment. Horan from Islington, London, was living in Walthamstow and married with four young daughters when he joined up. Present at Gallipoli from June 1915, he was killed in action on 6th August 1915 during the first day of the Battle of Sari Bair.

Sidney Horan was born on 8th May 1890 in Islington, London, and resided in Walthamstow. He was married to Mary Anne Jane, and had four children, all daughters. Horan then saw service during the Great War as a Private (No.15903) with the 1st Battalion, Essex Regiment, and saw service at Gallipoli from 10th June 1915, joining his battalion which was already on service there. Horan was listed as ‘presumed dead’ `and then confirmed as killed in action on 6th August 1915 during the first day of the Battle of Sari Bair. His body was recovered, and he is buried in Twelve Tree Copse Cemetery.
