Thomas Leonard Cornwell was born in Manor Park, Ilford, Essex and would see Great War service as a Private (No. 2903) with the Royal East Kent Yeomanry at Gallipoli from 7th October 1915 and later with the Machine Gun Corps as a Private (No. 56199). Demobilised on 14th August 1919, by the time of the 1921 census he would be living in Beckenham, Kent.
