William Sugden saw service as a Private (No. 2469) with the 10th Hussars on the Western Front from 6th October 1914 and is noted as being twice wounded, the first time on 12th November 1914 and the second time on 18th January 1916. He would be discharged with entitlement to a Silver War Badge on 20th April 1919
