Great War casualty 1914-1915 Star awarded to Private, later Corporal J.A. Brough, 1st Battalion, Westmorland and Cumberland Yeomanry, later 7th (Westmorland and Cumberland Yeomanry) Battalion, Border Regiment who saw service on the Western Front from 24th July 1915 and who died of wounds on 8th December 1917 whilst serving and is now buried in Whitehaven Cemetery.

Joseph Alexander Brough was born in Newtown, Whitehaven, Cumberland and joined the Westmorland and Cumberland Yeomanry at Whitehaven in July 1911. He would go on to see Great War service on the Western Front from 24th July 1915 initially as a Private and then Corporal (No. 1918) with the 1st Battalion, Westmorland and Cumberland Yeomanry and later as a Corporal (No. 260328) with the Border Regiment.
Joseph Alexander Brough died of wounds on 8th December 1917 whilst serving as a Corporal with the 7th (Westmorland and Cumberland Yeomanry) Battalion, Border Regiment as is now buried in the Whitehaven Cemetery. He is noted as the son of Andrew and Jennie Brough of Whitehaven.
