He would later be commissioned on 30th October 1917 seeing service with the 10th (County of London) Battalion (Hackney), London Regiment.

William Tack saw service as Lance Serjeant and later Serjeant (No. 1050, later No. 200024) with the 1st/7th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment on the Western Front from 12th March 1915 and would be awarded the Military Medal in the London Gazette of 18th June 1917, which covers awards for the Battle of Arras in April 1917. He would be commissioned on 30th October 1917 later seeing service with the 10th (County of London) Battalion, London Regiment where he would finish with the rank of Captain.
