Albert Victor James saw service as a Private (No. 8953) and later Lance Corporal with the 2nd Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry in India during the Great War and in the subsequent fighting on the North Wesst Frontier that comprised the Third Afghanistan War before being discharged to ‘Z’ Reserve on 1st January 1920.
