Besson, 17th Duke of Cambridge’s Own Lancers, originally saw service during the Great War out on the Western Front from 6th October 1914, and later transferred as a Guardsman (No.4328) to the Guards Machine-Gun Regiment. He later claimed the Clasp and Roses to the 1914 Star in October 1920
