Great War 1914-1915 Star trio awarded to Able Seaman J. Neil, Royal Navy who saw early war service aboard H.M.S. Warrior, later serving aboard H.M.S. Bristol and the minesweeper H.M.S. Lobelia.

James Neil was born in Airdrie, Lanarkshire and giving his trade as a Coal Miner joined for 12 years on 16th November 1912. Initially serving as a Boy 2nd Class , he would be advanced to Boy 1st Class on 1st November 1912 whilst serving aboard H.M.S. London and then appointed Ordinary Seaman on 30th January 1913, after a short period aboard H.M.S. Bristol he would transfer to H.M.S. Warrior where he would be appointed Able Seaman on 30th March 1916 and still serving aboard upon the outbreak of the Great War and remaining there until 23rd August 1915.
After a short period ashore he would then serve aboard the minesweeper H.M.S. Lobelia for the remainder of the war, and having then returned ashore would join the Royal Fleet Reserve on 21st February 1920.
