Great War 1914-1915 Star and Memorial Plaque awarded to Private J.F. Mace, 12th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment who was killed by enemy aircraft while lying in hospital on 1st October 1917. He is now buried in Longuenesse (St. Omer) Souvenir Cemetery.

James Frederick Mace lived at 28 Victoria Street, St. Paul’s, Cheltenham and was a well-known member of the Cheltenham Harriers and having enlisted saw service with the 12th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment on the Western Front being wounded in the neck and face on 31st July 1917. He would be sent to Cambridge Hospital, Aldershot to recover.
He would return to the Western Front where he was killed by enemy aircraft while lying in hospital on 1st October 1917. He is now buried in Longuenesse (St. Omer) Souvenir Cemetery.
