Great Britain: The formation of the Royal Air Force, a ‘Temporary’ appointment to be a Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force, inscribed in the name of Cyril Dixon, who was appointed to be a Lieutenant on 1 April 1918, to date with the formation of this force, this issued through the Court of Saint James on 1 November 1918, bearing facsimile signatures, including one for King George V as ‘George R.I.’
Condition: folded, overall clean and generally Good condition.
Cyril Dixon originally saw service as a Private (No.1898) in the Honourable Artillery Company, and was present out on the Western Front from 14 February 1915, prior to being commissioned into the Royal Flying Corps on 21 October 1916, and then granted a temporary appointment as a Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force on 1 April 1918, on the date of the formation of this unit. He claimed his Great War campaign medals in March 1919 when residing at Adelphi House in Glasgow.
