Germany - Weimar Republic period (1919-1933) and possibly Third Reich: A previously unidentified German Propaganda badge, possibly for a German Veteran’s Organisation, this commemorating the signing of the Peace Treaty at Versailles, an act which left many Germans disillusioned and led to the rise of National Socialism. the badge, which is oval bearing three enamelled lightning bolts and the word ‘VERSAILLES’ all within and oval enamel surround, is extremely well made in tombak copper alloy with a heavy silver wash. The reverse which has a horizontal silver wearing pin, bearing a central shield for the pin which has the embossed makers details for ‘L.Chr.Lauer Nürnberg Berlin’, this the renowned German mint and insignia maker L. Christian Lauer of Nurnberg/Berlin. An extremely rare badge of very good quality, and apparently previously unrecorded
