Germany – Third Reich: A small document group relating to an Unteroffizier Walter Borsum, who was severely wounded in November 1941 resulting in the amputation of part of his lower left leg and his return to Germany where he would receive an allowance as a disabled soldier.
1) Letter from the Chief Doctor at Feldpost Number 13 074 (which was used by Feldlazarett 652) dated 24th November 1941 to Borsum’s father telling him that his son had arrived at his hospital yesterday with a wound which resulted in the amputation of part of his lower left leg, and that given the circumstances he was recovering well and that he needn’t worry. His son was to be moved to a rear hospital as soon as his condition allowed, and that it was requested that Borsum’s father did not write to the Feldpost number he was currently present at, and was to wait for his new address.
2) Letter from the Wehrmacht Welfare Office dated Braunschweig, 19th July 1943. Confirming that Borsum was disabled having suffered the loss of his left leg below the knee joint and damage to toes on his right foot all with significant movement disorders.
3) Copy of a birth certificate dated 12th August 1952 confirming Borsum’s birthdate as 15th July 1920.
