Germany - Third Reich: A single sheet Memorial Card for a decorated German Soldier killed during the war, printed in memory of Feldwebel und Zugfuhrer Underl Steinberger of a Mountain Infantry Regiment, who was killed in the fighting near Nikopol on the Eastern Front aged 27 on 22nd December 1943.
Steinberger was a decorated soldier having been awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class, Iron Cross 1st Class, Infantry Assault Badge in Silver, and the Wound Badge in Silver as well as the Crete Armband for his part in that well known operation in May 1941.
Condition: Good Condition.
The fighting near Nikopol in December 1943 aimed to defend the west bank of the Dnieper River against Red Army attacks, the town of Nikopol was eventually captured in February 1944 during a wide ranging Red Army offensive across Western Ukraine.
