Germany – Third Reich: A signed Hoffman photograph of Hauptmann Peter Franz, winner of the Knights Cross and Oakleaves, signed in the bottom right of the image.
Condition: Good very fine
With a clear ink signature to the bottom right of the front of the image Major Peter Franz was awarded the Knights Cross on 4th June 1942 as Oberleutnant, while serving as an Assault Gun Leader assigned to the 16th Assault Gun Company of the ‘Grossdeutschland’ Regiment for actions on the Russian Front. Subsequently awarded the Oakleaves to the Knights Cross (the 228th Recipient) as Hauptmann, while commanding the assault gun battalion of Grossdeutschland Division in actions near Kharkov during the third battle of Kharkov in the spring of 1943. At the start of WW2 he was Ordnance Officer on Staff of Panzer Artillery Regiment 74, and after serving in Polish Campaign he served in Sturm Artillery School in Juterbog in Brandenburg, November 1939. From 4/4/1940 he served in 16th Company of Infantry Regiment ‘Grossdeutschland’ and then served in the Western Campaign. In 1942 he was a Battery Commander in Grossdeutschland and then by March 1943 he was Battalion Commander. His last command was Quartermaster of 41st Panzer Corps. From May 1945 until April 1946 he spent in Western Captivity
