Germany - Third Reich: A rare NSDAP 1933 Uprising Commemorative Shooting Medallion, struck to commemorate the competition held from 27 August to 10 September 1933 in Munich and as organised by the Royal Privileged Fire-Shooting Society “The Bund”, for the shooting match organised to celebrate the occasion of the national uprising of the German people and the rise of Adolf Hitler to power. Silver, marked ‘990’ on the rim, the obverse bearing the left facing bust of Adolf Hitler and embossed working ‘Reichskanzler Adolf Hitler’, whilst the reverse has the embossed surround inscription: ‘Kgl. Priv. Feuerschützen Gesellschaft “Der Bund” München’ (Royal Privileged Fire-Shooting Society “The Bund” Munich), with in the centre: ‘Gedenkschiessen Anlässlich der Nationalen Erhebung D. Deutschen Volkes’ (Commemorative shooting match on the occasion of the national uprising of the German people’. Measuring 40 mm in diameter. Housed in a period fitted case. Rare and a superb example of type.
Condition: very light scuffing on obverse cheek, overall Good Very Fine, the case lightly scuffed from handling.
This medallion, which is rare, heralds from the very the early days of the assumption of National Socialist power in Germany. The Königlich privilegierte Feuerschützengesellschaft "Der Bund" München e.V. Kgl. priv. FSG “Der Bund" is a historic, highly competitive marksmanship club. It is located in the Allach-Untermenzing district of Munich. Renowned for its elite shooting teams, the club regularly competes at the top level of the German Bundesliga for shooting.
