Germany – Imperial States – Schaumberg-Lippe: 1914-18 Loyal Service Cross on short length of original Combatant Ribbon.
Condition: Good very fine
Gilt bronze Greek cross with out-turned ends to the arms, with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the crowned cipher of Prince Adolph centrally, the upper, left, right and lower arms inscribed ‘FÜR’, ‘TREUE’, ‘DIENSTE’, ‘1914’ respectively; the reverse plain; on replaced correct ribbon. The Cross was instituted by Prince Adolph II on 18 November 1914 and was based on the Cross founded by his grandfather, Prince Adolph Georg for the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871. It was the main military award of the small Principality of Schaumburg-Lippe during World War I. The population of Schaumburg-Lippe was less than 50,000 and the Cross is thus relatively rare.
