Condition: silver wash faded, light contact wear, overall Good Very Fine.
The medal can trace its origins as far back as 1769 when Grand Duke Karl-Friedrich instituted a large and small Silver Medal of Merit. This version showing Grand Duke Friedrich I was issued from 1882 to 1908 and approximately six thousand five hundred awards were made.
