Germany - Imperial: German Army Identity Disc, 1878-1915 pattern, this of oval zinc form measuring 51 mm in width across the face, and stamped: ‘III R.J.R. 216 11. Komp. 24.’ and black on the other side. As worn by a soldier in the 3rd Battalion, Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment 216, who was serving in the 11th Company. The number ’24’ will presumably be the soldier’s service number. This affixed to its original neck cord, bearing the black and white colours of Prussia. A very fine example.
Condition: overall Good Very Fine.
The Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment 216 was originally raised in September 1914 as part of the 46th Reserve Division. The regiment largely recruited men from the Hanseatic city of Hamburg.
