Germany - Imperial: First World War Bronze Plaque produced to commemorate the German Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia and his role during the Battle of Longwy in August 1914. Cast bronze, obverse bears the left facing profile of Wilhem, he is shown in high relief wearing his Prussian military officer uniform, and beneath is the embossed inscription: ‘WILHELM DEUTSCHER KRONPRINZ DER SIEGER VON LONGWY AUGUST 1914’. Measuring approximately 67 x 44 mm, otherwise unmarked. A good example of type.

As the Battle of Longwy on 21-24 August 1914, the German 5th Army, commanded by Crown Prince Wilhelm, successfully captured the French fortification of Longwy. This victory was widely used for wartime domestic propaganda and patriotism. German Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia (1882-1951) was the eldest son of Kaiser Wilhelm II, and the last heir apparent to the German Empire.
