The German Gymnastics Association (Deutscher Turnerbund) was was conservative, but not really "right wing extremists", the nazis incorporated the Turnerbund into their own "Nationalsozialistischer Reichsbund für Leibesübungen" (NSRL) after 1933. In 1936 the semi-autonomus "Fachamt 1 - Deutscher Turnerbund" was dismantled. It just became the "gymnastic branch" of the NSRL. In the preparation for the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games, the nazis thought the ex-TB staff members (who were not necessarily convinced nazis) would hamper the propaganda efforts. So the "Fachamt 1" lost its "independence" and was restructured to ensure a good control by the party.
