German Spring Offensive Victory Medal, bi-lingual South Africa reverse awarded to Private J.W. Schietekat, 4th South Africa Infantry who was taken prisoner of war on 24th March 1918 at Buchavesnes during the German Spring Offensive.

John W. Schietekat was born on 3rd November 1894 and saw service with the 4th South African Infantry on the Western Front and was taken prisoner of war on 24th March 1918 at Buchavesnes. Originally from Cape Town, he would marry Laura K. Aris in Richmond, Surrey during the second quarter of 1919. He would be issued a provisional pension by the South Africa Military on 1st October 1919.
