Sidney Lawrence Dathan was born in Shoreditch, London on 15th January 1896 and would later see service as a Private (No. 4162) with the 4th Battalion, London Regiment on the Western Front from 27th October 1915. He would be taken Prisoner of War at Oppy Wood on 28th March 1918 during the opening days of the German Spring Offensive and would survive the war to be repatriated.
