Peter James Lockwood-Wingate received a Regular Army Emergency Commission from O.C.T.U. as a 2nd Lieutenant on 10th May 1941 into the Leicestershire Regiment, on the 2nd August 1941 he was transferred, retaining rank and seniority to the Rifle Brigade. He is listed as a casualty in the casualty list of 11th November 1942 having been wounded in the Western Desert whilst serving with 7th Battalion, Rifle Brigade.
Appointed Second Lieutenant (War Substantive Lieutenant) from an Emergency Commission to be a Lieutenant on 1st May 1947 with seniority from 26th December 1943 and would be granted the acting rank of Captain from 1st May 1947. Rifle Brigade Captain J.P. Lockwood-Wingate from active list to be Captain from 1st July 1949 retaining his present seniority.
