James Henry Turner was born in Ancoats, Manchester, and living in Chorlton-on-Medlock, Lancashire, when owing to the Great War he enlisted at Manchester and saw service as a Private (No.6271) with the 1st Battalion, Border Regiment. Turner was part of the first day landings at Gallipoli on 25th April 1915, and was killed in action on this day. Having no known grave, he is commemorated by name on the Helles Memorial.
