France: Industrial and Maritime Union Company (Union Industrielle et Maritime Cie) Commemorative Medal issued to commemorate the launch of the French Cargo Vessel ”Capitaine Jean Fougere” at the South Bank in North Yorkshire on 22 November 1946. This large medallion, measuring 73 mm across, was created from a re-strike of the famed Louis XIV Naval Medallion commemorating the Glory of the French Navy, and is cast in bronze, and marked as such on the rim. Housed in its original card box.

The French Cargo Vessel ”Capitaine Jean Fougere” was named in honour of the French Army officer of this rank and name who fought during the Second World War and was killed in action whilst fighting in Germany at Unlingen on 23 April 1945.
