France: Colonial Medal 1893-1962, silver, 1st official type 1895-1913, with barrel suspension, and with clasp for Tunisie (Tunisia), obverse bearing medallists details for Georges Lemaire in relief, reverse bearing the initials ‘GL’ for the same, and with cornucopia and ‘Argent’ silver hallmark to the rim, and the wreath suspension also hallmarked. Complete with original (now faded and slightly frayed) ribbon and two pronged wearing pin. A good example of type.
Condition: Good Very Fine.
The medal was established on 26 July 1893 and awarded to military personnel who participated in operations in French colonies and protectorates. In all, there were 50 different campaign bars. It became defunct on 6 June 1962, being replaced by the Overseas Medal (Médaille d’Outre-Mer).
