First World War period vintage Binocular’s, these being in fact French made Opera Glasses by the well known Paris firm of Lemaire, being marked on the eye lens band: ‘LEMAIRE FABT. PARIS’. These glasses, were easily adapted for use by the armies fighting at the front, this pair being an example of such, and the brown leather case has the initials ‘R. H.’ impressed onto the outer lid, and are then additionally inscribed in ink on the inner lid: ‘R. Holmes’, who was presumably a British officer who carried these.
Condition: glazed lenses are in good condition, overall functional, and in Fair Condition, the leather case is complete with its buckle, though the fastening strap is now partially worn through.
