George Caldwell was born and enlisted in Birmingham before seeing service as a Private (No. 6809) with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers on the Western Front from 22nd August 1914, he would go on to transfer to the 1st Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers and would be killed in action on 25th September 1915 – the first day of the Battle of Loos and having no known grave is now remembered on the Loos Memorial being noted as the son of Mrs. Elizabeth Caldwell of 6/67 Kenyon Street, Birmingham and the husband of France Caldwell of 6/286 Lichfield Road, Aston, Birmingham.
