Father and Son medals to the Shepperd Family comprising Great War Western Front Military Medal group to Private R. Sheppherd, 2nd/8th Battalion, later 1st/8th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment, the son, who initially served in Egypt from 31st August 1918, later serving on the Western Front being awarded the Military Medal in the London Gazette of 23rd July 1919 for services on the Western Front along with the Volunteer Force Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, EVII bust, awarded to his father, Serjeant R. Shepherd, 2nd Volunteer Battalion, Middlesex Regiment.

Richard Shepherd enlisted aged 24 on 8th September 1914 for 4 years service, and would see service as a Private (No. 3211) with the 8th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment and having seen service in UK, would travel to the Gibraltar on 1st February 1915 and then to Egypt on 23rd August 1915 seeing active service there from 31st August 1915.
On 8th May 1916, Shepherd would embark at Alexandria for the Western Front, disembarking at Marseille on 15th May 1916. It would take nearly a month for Shepherd to reach Rouen and he would join the 1st/8th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment on 15th June 1916.
He would later be awarded the Military Medal, on 27th November 1918, this being confirmed in the London Gazette of 23rd July 1919 which states that he was from Ealing, West London. Shepherd would be disembodied on 22nd February 1919. His discharge papers noting he had had throat and ear trouble that was contracted in Egypt in November 1915 and that he had also had a number of teeth extracted in both Egypt and France, this put down to bad living condition whilst serving in the desert at Mersa Matruh.
